Community Guidelines – 1.0

Dagga Academy is a collaborative learning community created, managed and sustained by The Future Cannabis Project. By participating in this community, you agree to the following community guidelines.

Don’t Be a Dick

While we tried to Google “Biggest Dicks in History” to give you examples of what we’re about to talk about, the search results were a little… off.

We think, though, that you know what we’re talking about when we ask that you don’t be a dick and, by extension, an asshole, a troll, or just an entirely unpleasant person to share a community with.

Basically, we will not tolerate those that are deliberately derogatory, that berate or harass people, or that can’t be civil when they disagree. We definitely will not tolerate insults based on age, race, gender, sexual orientation, intellect or even perceived experience in the field.

Violations will be met with warnings. We all have our bad days and hopefully some backchannel check-ins help clear our heads. Repeated violations, though – basically, a pattern of behavior – will be met with suspensions and permanent bans.

We simply ask that you be kind, be supportive and lend a hand when and where you can. If you come across something that really rubs you the wrong way, step away, take a few deep breaths and try to constructively engage with that content if you must. Otherwise, let it go. No one ever wins an argument on the internet.

Here are some specific behaviors that we don’t allow in this community.

Spam

We get it. You have something and would like to promote it. This isn’t really the place. Sure, if someone specifically posts, “I’m looking for a widget that does widgety things,” and you have said widget, feel free to reply, “Hey, I have one of those. Send me a direct message and we can discuss.”

However, no one wants their timeline filled with you promoting the widgety thing. Do it and you’ll get a warning. Do it repeatedly and your account will be suspended.

Buying and Selling

Speaking of which, this community isn’t a marketplace. Don’t treat it as one. If the desire is there, we’ll create a specific group for people to connect to barter, trade or otherwise buy and sell their widgets.

That said, communication about the buying, selling, bartering or trading should not take place on this site. You have email. You have telephone numbers. Use those. At the very most, you can use this platform to share contact information in order to continue your conversation elsewhere.

Anything (Even Remotely) Illegal

We’re bound by the same rules, laws and regulations as any other US-based platform that you may use. As such, there may come a time where we’re required by law to turn over User information.

Don’t do (or post) anything that could get yourself in trouble or that threatens the ongoing existence of this site. Doing so will result in an immediate ban.

No Doxxing

You are not required to use your real name on this site. Indeed, many, for whatever reason, choose to use a pseudonym. You are not allowed to “reveal” who those people are. You are also not allowed to reveal their location, contact information or other identifying information.

Thread Hijacking

A thread is a topic of discussion on Group message boards. When you enter a thread, you are expected to stay on topic and discuss whatever it is that others are talking about. It is not a place to steer ninety degrees to the right or left to grind whatever axe it is that you hope to grind. That ruins the experience for whoever else is communicating on that topic.

If you have an axe that needs grinding, start your own topic in the appropriate Group. If that Group does not exist, contact us and we’re more than likely willing to start one.

Group Hijacking

This site is organized by topic specific Groups. For example, all courses have Groups and a growing number of breeders have Groups that are specific to their product lines. As we identify subject matter experts, we’ll add more Groups around different topics until, hopefully, there are Groups aplenty for everyone even outside of cannabis cultivation and gardening.

Additionally, within groups are Newsfeeds, Message Boards and Photos.

With that as background, do not enter a Group and post things that are totally off topic to that Group. If the group is about soil management, keep your posts, discussions and photos inline with that topic. Do not start posting memes about some news event or your latest favorite pet photos no matter how cute your pet may be. You can do that on your personal Profile Page.

Pornography

In the we can’t define it but we know it when we see it department, we’ll remove any pornography posted to this site, issue a warning to whoever posted it and ban them should they do it again. While we don’t consider ourselves prudes, this site is intended to be safe for work.

If you’re wondering whether something is safe to post, it probably isn’t but you can always ask. Just submit a link to the item in question and we’ll give it a review.

Things You Should Know About The Future Cannabis Project

We are not a big corporation. We’re not even a little corporation. We’re one guy who’s been interviewing people nonstop, another who knows how to code, a number of volunteers and community members like yourself.

As we enforce the above rules, we understand that we’re fallible and can get things wrong. We ask for your patience.

Should you ever have any questions or issues, contact us and we’ll get back to you as quickly as possible.

Developing community guidelines is a community effort. If you have comments, suggestions or concerns about anything you’ve just read, please let us know in the Guideline Forum. We’ll incorporate what we can in our next revision.

Privacy Policy

Human Readable Privacy Policy

Long story short: the only data we collect from you on this site is the data needed to perform basic functions and transactions. For example, you’re interested in purchasing a course or access to a webinar. You put it in your cart. We make sure it stays in your cart as you browse the site. We process your credit card when you decide to finally buy it.

We also collect and maintain data that is needed to run a social site. For example, you join a group and participate in discussions within that group. Here, the content you create is tied to your user account.

Below we outline how we collect and use data, how long we keep different types of data, third parties that you should be aware of, and how you can delete any and all data that we have about you that we actually control.

We believe privacy policies should be straightforward and simple to understand. If you have any questions or issues with anything you read here, please reach out to us . Our goal is to be as transparent as possible.

Who we are

Dagga Academy is The Future Cannabis Project‘s social learning community. The Future Cannabis Project is an events and media advocacy group that focuses on the business, science, policy and culture of the cannabis industry.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We collect the minimum amount of information needed from you in order to run this site. We keep that information for what we believe is a reasonable amount of time before it is automatically deleted from our systems.

That said, there are activities you may engage in while here that leave personal data trails. There are also opt-in features such as newsletters that you may decide to join in which case you are proactively sharing data (read: your email address) that you should be aware of. In all cases, we have mechanisms in place for you to either delete data of yours that is in our possession, or are able to request that we do so on your behalf.

Course Registrations and Paid Content

Dagga Academy has a blend of free and paid content. For example, some courses are free to registered members, others are paid-for.

If you enroll in a free course (or webinar), the only information we maintain and process is that which you included when registering for your account on this site. For example, your User Name (and account) will be logged so that the server knows to display the course to you and track your progress through the course. We track course progress so that you are able to see what lessons you’ve seen or taken and what’s left.

If you enroll in a paid course (or webinar), you will be required to enter a credit card to pay for it. When doing so, your legal name and billing address are required in order to process the payment. This information is sent to our payment gateway for processing.

We process your credit card through a company called Stripe . According to their privacy policy , Stripe will not collect your personal data. Instead, it resides with us. Here’s what we do with it, and how long we do it for:

• Retain completed orders: six months.
• Retain cancelled orders: 14 days.
• Retain failed orders: 14 days.
• Retain pending orders: 14 days.
• Retain Stripe data: 14 days.

Some clarification on Stripe data: If you have a Stripe account, we will have access to your customer ID and other identifying information that allows us to process your payment.

Additional Shopping Notes: We will remove personal data from orders upon request. When we do that, our records will show that an item or items were purchased, but there will no identifiable information on who purchased the item.

Original Content & Comments

When you create new content or leave comments on other people’s content, we collect the data shown in the forms you used to do so in order to display it. We also collect your IP address and browser user agent string in order to help us detect spam.

Your original content or comments are tied to your user account. This means that other people on the site can identify who posted what and in response to whom.

Contact forms

If you choose to contact us via contact forms found on this site, your message, email address, web browser type and IP address will be logged in the same manner as the comments and original content above. The primary reason for this is to automate spam detection.

Once your message passes through spam detection, the information listed above along with your message is emailed to The Future Cannabis Project and eliminated from this server.

If you would like your message to us deleted from our email accounts, simply let us know when you contact us, or in follow-up communication with us.

Cookies

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

You are able to proactively eliminate all cookies by deleting your web history in the browser that you use.

Who we share your data with

Unless required by law enforcement agencies, we do not share your data with anyone.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time. Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
