Sungrown Mids – Malawi Chem #1

Genetics: Malawi Gold (Bodhi) x 3 Chems (Top Dawg)

Bag Appeal: While the Malawi Chem was obviously grown outdoors – and I appreciate a self-effacing joke as much as anyone else – I would not describe it as sungrown mids. While the tree-like nugs have open bracts, each individual surface is absolutely caked in gorgeous, fully ripe trichomes. Despite being fairly leafy, every spiraling amber pistil is left perfectly intact, and the calyxes themselves have a rich resinous texture that is more developed than most indoor flower.

Aroma: Candidly, the initial aroma is very similar to what has passed as Haze for the past decade. Vaguely herbaceous and floral, the smell has a fermented sour note I find very intriguing. Closer to rosemary than anything else I can pinpoint, the backend of the aroma has a eucalyptus-like freshness that instantly cleared my sinuses.

Flavor: The Malawi Chem tastes like nothing I’ve tried before. The smoke is perfumed with licorice and freshly shredded carrots, with a smokey fuel tinge on the exhale. Despite a charred looking ash, the flavor comes through fairly unbothered, and the smokey notes complement the savory palate. More woody than anything I’ve tasted prior, Trevor’s Malawi Chem is beautifully clearheaded and genuinely improves my sense of well-being.
